Melbourne has four horse racing tracks – Flemington, where the Melbourne Cup is held each year on the first Tuesday of November; Moonee Valley, Caulfield and Sandown.
There are also country tracks too – but the main big races and Spring Racing Carnival all happen at either Flemington or Caulfield which runs a number of Group 1 races. Moonee Valley has a number of night races, and Sandown also greyhound racing too.
The Autumn and Spring racing carnivals are also when fashion hits the turf too – and when there is a big race on, it is a great atmosphere to enjoy, with punters, bookmakers and all race goers making it a memorable day for all.
Betting on races – can be done on-line, at clubs, TAB and also at the course too.
Also for racing enthusiasts, it is worth seeing some of the great horses, like Phar Lap as well as the fashion at the National Sports Museum at the MCG.
International players all converge on Melbourne in January each year to play the Australian Open – and it can be very hot at this time of year too. There are both day and night games, and the list of players and matches can be found online, or to book a seat at the tennis click on www.viagogo.com.au
Tennis courts can be found all over Melbourne, but certainly the Rod Laver and Yvonne Cooley Arenas close to the city are at the heart of Tennis in Australia.
