Adelaide is noted for the number of cultural events that are held here each year – with music, arts and film festivals attracting a large number of visitors each year.

Listed below are some of the main attractions –

ZOOS and animals –

  • Adelaide Zoo is home to two giant Pandas from China and it is located in the Botanic Gardens off Frome Rd in the City. The zoo has around 1800 animals from all over the world.
  • Monarto Zoo – is an open plains zoo about an hour out of Adelaide off the Old Princes Highway at Monarto.
  • Gorge Wildlife Park – is located at 30 Redden Drive at Cudlee Creek in the Adelaide Hills about 45 minutes from the centre of Adelaide and is known for its birds and Australian animals. Tel: (08) 8389 2206.
  • Cleland Wildlife Park – is located at Waterfall Gully Mt Lofty Trail at Cleland, and is best known for koalas. It is also next to the Waterfall Gully-Mt Lofty Walking trails.
  • Saunders Gorge Sanctuary – is located at Sanderson 18km east of Mt Pleasant on the Walkers Flat-Mt Pleasant Rd. This was formerly a sheep station, and is now an Eco-Tourism sanctuary with cabins, restaurant, 4WD tracks and walking trails. Tel: (08)8569 3032.
  • Cumbungi Sanctuary – is also in the Adelaide Hills at Lot 14 Williams Rd at Mylor. This sanctuary is best known for its work with Platypus, and has an underwater observatory to see the platypus. Tel: (08)8370 8628.
  • Hanson Bay Accommodation and wildlife sanctuary – is located on 3845 hectares of fenced land on the western side of Kangaroo Island, near the Flinders Chase National Park. They also have accommodation. Tel: (08) 8559 7344
  • Parndana Wildlife Park – is near Pandana at 4068 Playford Highway Sedden on Kangaroo Island. Tel: (08) 8559 6050. The Park looks after orphaned and injured animals.
  • Urimbirra Wildlife Park – is located on the corner of Welch Rd and Victor Harbor Rd and has kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, lots of birds and also farm animals to see. Tel: (08) 8554 6554.
  • Granite Island – a horse drawn tram will take you from Victor Harbor to the island, where there are penguin colonies and other native animals.
  • Port Lincoln – is best known for its tuna boats that head out from Port Lincoln. It is also where you can dive with sharks inside the safety of a steel cage hanging off the side of a boat.
