NSW Country, The Southern Highlands

The Southern Highlands as the name suggests is inland from the mountains and is an area where sheep and cattle grazing are the main industries. This area can get snow in winter and quite cold, making it ideal for English Style gardens and trees.
The small towns of Bundanoon, Exeter, Sutton Forest, Moss Vale, Bowral, Berrima and Mittagong are all close to each other and they are popular places for Sydney people to travel and stay – taking in the colder climate and ambience of the towns and their architecture.
Quite a number of people also retire to these towns too, and there are many attractive houses and streetscapes, galleries and artefact/antique shops, as well as interesting pubs and restaurants to eat in.

All of these towns are located close to each other, and you will find antique shops, small boutiques, bookshops, cafes and restaurants as well as bed and breakfast and hotel accommodation. There are many old English style trees and houses build in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, making the Southern Highlands an enjoyable place to spend time in Autumn as the leaves change, winter to feel the cold weather or spring to see spring flowers.

Travelling further on from the Southern Highlands is Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory, and further again is Melbourne – Australia’s second largest city. (see Melbourne and Canberra sections of this website).
